Baccarat is a card game played at casinos all over the world and involves the comparison of cards between the ‘player’ and the ‘banker’. There are three possible outcomes in Baccarat: either the player wins, the banker wins or it’s a tie.

If you are after tips on how to win at Baccarat, one strategy is to play games where fewer decks are used. Typically, eight decks are used in Baccarat so if you find a casino that uses fewer decks, the odds are better in your favour. The best Baccarat strategy by far is to sit down beforehand and work out how much you are willing to play with. It’s only possible to wipe out if you allow yourself to wipe out so only gamble with what you can afford to lose. Of course, you may end up not losing it!

Valuation of Hands in Baccarat

In Baccarat, you bet on whether the banker’s or the player’s hand will win, or if there will be a tie. The valuation of hands lies in totting up the total of all the cards, getting the total and knocking off the first digit. Therefore, if you hold cards to the total value of fifteen, your total will be five. The purpose of doing this is to stop any hand going over a total of nine. All face cards (kings, queens etc.) have no value, as do tens. Aces are worth one point and the rest are equal to their number.

The Rules of Baccarat

The cards are dealt from six or eight-deck shoes. Once the value of the cards dealt has been counted, a further card may be dealt to each hand. Bets are placed upon which hand is most likely to have the highest final number. If either player has a total of 8 or 9 in their first two cards, no further cards may be drawn and this type of hand is referred to as a ‘natural’. Conversely if the cards total less or equal to five, a third card may be drawn. There are further rules but the understanding of them is not crucial in the playing of Baccarat.
